I would guess that most "new" computer users actually don't know that these things are mimicking their physical counterparts — well they know in the sense that it looks like a physical good, but I doubt they every think: "I used to have a calculator just like this one".

I'm not sure if it's true that most people will see a calculator on a computer screen before they see a "real" one, but I think the point is sound: as computers replace physical items more and more often, many people will use the computer version before ever seeing the real version.
